H.M.S."Tamar" at Hong Kong.

23rd May 1901.

Sir,

Plague in the Colony has increased largely and I have deemed it advisable to place nearly the whole City out of bounds and to put restrictions on night leave. There have been two cases of plague among Europeans in the Victualling Yard, one a Portuguese Writer and the other an English Storehouseman, I regret to report that the latter proved fatal.

I have, &c.,

(signed) F.Powell,

Commodore.

Vice Admiral

Sir Edward H.Seymour G.C.B.,

Commander in Chief,

China.
